Did I Say Frivolous? I Meant Necessary

Funny how frivolous lawsuits stop being frivolous when it's you.

Richard Scruggs, Senator Trent Lott's brother-in-law, representing Lott in his lawsuit against State Farm (for claims related to damages on his home from Katrina)

You'd Think. You'd be Wrong

You'd think that the Congress would want to stand up for the interests of consumers from time to time.

Well, He May be a Slow Learner, But Maybe He Has Actually Gotten This

What I've learned from this is that the American people don't want you involved in these situations.

It's Much Better When We Can Just Make Them Disappear

If TV is showing a picture of George Bush and Jack Abramoff, it immediately brings the poster boy for abuse into the Oval Office.

Now See, I Would Have Said the 18th Amendment

General Michael Hayden, January 2006, responding to questions on domestic spying agenda. And getting the wording of the 4th amendment wrong.

"Believe me, if there's any amendment to the Constitution that employees at the National Security Agency is familiar with, it's the fourth, alright?"

No, But Then Again, I Don't Get That Bill

General Michael Hayden, when pressed about the administration's domestic spying program:

Do you know how much time Americans spend on the phone in international calls alone? Okay? In 2003, our citizenry was on the phone in international calls alone for 200 billion minutes.

In honor of Dr. King

Some quotes of Dr. King's we may have forgotten, or not known. Words that ring true and give me hope for today, what we are fighting for, and our future.

Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter.

We must learn to live together as brothers or perish together as fools.

When you are right you cannot be too radical; when you are wrong, you cannot be too conservative.

I believe that unarmed truth and unconditional love will have the final word in reality. That is why right, temporarily defeated, is stronger than evil triumphant.

Nothing in all the world is more dangerous than sincere ignorance and conscientious stupidity.

The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy.

As 2006 begins, I wish us all more hope and strength in fighting evil, ignorance and intolerance in all its forms.

That Rubber Ducky Could be Dangerous!

I don't want to be on the list. I want to fly and see my grandma.
Edward Allen
4 year old boy

Eddie's name matched a name on the terrorist watch list, so Continental Airlines refused to let him fly until his mother pointed out that he was a 4 YEAR OLD BOY.

A Brave New World . . . or not

Thanks to Kathy at stonesoupmusings for this entry:

Over the next several months, on issue after issue, let us do what Americans have always done, and build a better world for our children and grandchildren.
George Bush, State of the Union speech, 2005

I agree, we’re still waiting.

Tom DeLay, Ethical Giant

I have always acted in an ethical manner within the rules of our body and the laws of our land. I am fully confident time will bear this out.
Rep. Tom DeLay (R-Tex.) , January 7, 2006

Who doesn't equate the name DeLay with ethics and law. ... oh, I'm sorry, I couldn't even type that with a straight face.

Oops, Missed that One - Their Bad

We really didn't see the insurgency coming
L. Paul Bremer, leader of the civilian occupation authority in Iraq after the 2003 invasion.

Let's cut the administration some slack. It's hard to win the peace when you only plan for war.

George Bush, January 1, 2006.
If somebody from al Qaeda is calling you, we'd like to know why.

Honestly Bushie boy, if someone from al Qaeda is calling me, I'd like to know why too. But nice try at a defense for spying on your own people.
