No Big Surprise Here

This deal wouldn't go forward if we were concerned about the security of the United States of America.

Bush on the whole ports ownership issue.

But Then He Can't Sell it on Ebay!

Oh yeah, we keep pellets, we keep bullets, in people all the time.

Senator Frist, asked on Face the Nation about the pellet left in HarryWhittington's heart.

Uh . . . You Think Chenster Didn't See the Mission Accomplished Banner?

I'm confident we will succeed, that the only way we can lose this one is if we quit. And we're not about to quit. We're going to complete the mission.

Cheney, Feb 3, 2003, The Laura Ingraham Show

Wait a minute, I KNOW I saw a "Mission Accomplished" banner behind the prez a long time ago.

Or When the Neo-Cons Tell You to

You only resort to military action when you have no other choice.

CYA, White House Style

Instead of creating and leading an agressive and innovative Marshall Plan for the area [devestated by Katrina), calling together the corporate executives & lobbyists who are his most loyal constituency and who actually know how to get things done, the president went AWOL--absent without leadership. . . . the White House has stepped up--not to save the region, but to save itself. Officials are claiming they can't release documents about the bureaucratic disaster because of executive privilege. . . . The result is that Americans are on notice that if their community is destroyed, the government will work hardest to save its own skin.

Yet Another Bush Lie. Business as Usual.

Any time you hear the United States government talking about wiretap, it requires--a wiretap requires a court order. Nothing has changed, by the way. When we're talking about chasing down terrorists, we're talking about getting a court order before we do so.

Statement by Geo W. Bush, made in Buffalo, NY on April 24, 2004, at a time when Bush-directed NSA non-warranted wiretaping was taking place.

Special State of Disunion Edition

From W's speech

The only way to secure the peace, the only way to control our destiny is by our leadership.

(Ok, so, well, we're screwed.)
-------
We love our freedom, and we will fight to keep it.

(Except. of course, for those from the 1st or 4th amendment.)

-------
In less than three years, [Iraq] has gone from dictatorship, to liberation, to soverignty, to a constitution, to n ational election.

(I think you forgot the "to total chaos" chapter of our post-invasion "victory" period.)

-------
But those decisions [on troop levels] will be made by our military commanders, not by politicians in Washington, D.C.

(Except for those made by commanders that contradict OUR politicians and/or Secy. of Defense.)

-------
Raising up a democracy requires the rule of law, and protection of minorities, and strong, accountable institutions that last longer tha a single vote.

(And we're hopefully going to see the last two of them here in the US anytime now.)

-------
American has created 4.6 million new jobs, more than Japan and the European Union combined.

(Unfortunately, many of them seem to be actually located in other countries, but what the heck.)

-------
So we're seeing some old temptations return. . . . Others say that the government needs to take a larger role in directing the economy.

(yet, only a few minutes later)

tax relief is set to expire in the next few years. If we do nothing, American families will face a massive tax increase they do not expect and will not welcome. . . . I urge Congress to act responsibily and make the tax cuts permanent.

(I guess the whole bugaboo of government taking a larger role in directing the economy is ok if it's Bush doing it.)
-------
Tonight I announce the American Competitiveness Initiative to encourage inovation throughout or economy and to give our nation's children a firm grounding in math and science.

(Math - only the President knows what's good for the economy, Science - the earth was created 6,000 years ago and evolution never happened. Yup, we'll be leading the world in NO TIME!)

-------
Yet many Americans, especially parents, still have deep concerns about the direction of our culture and the health of our most basic institutions. They are concerned about unethical conduct by public officials and discouraged by activist courts that try to redefine marriage.

(This is true. I've spoken to maybe hundreds of American parents who could care less about the war, the economy, education and health care. They understand that none of that is important when compared to the threat posed by activist courts!)

-------
Fellow citizens, we have been called to leadership in a period of consequence.

(I don't know about the rest of you, but I sure didn't call them. I know that because I never call them.)

-------
We have entered a great ideological conflict we did nothing to invite.

(Would that be the anti-gay marriage one, the anti-abortion one, the anti-stem cells one, the anti-evolution one, or another one?)

-------
We see great changes in science and commerce that will influence all our lives.

(Except the science ones, we'll get stomped out!)

My fellow Americans, I only have one thing to say -- God help us all for the next two years.
